About Me
As a visually impaired artist, I have spent the last few years experimenting with styles and mediums that accommodate my progressive vision loss.
I have always been a landscape painter, and received a BFA from Ithaca College with a focus in oil painted landscapes, but as my vision has worsened, it has become increasingly difficult to depict landscapes in my preferred detailed style.
I miss a lot of visual information when relying on my eyesight alone, and I have been exploring other ways to communicate the experience of place. Over time, I have shifted my focus from capturing every detail to evoking the emotions these landscapes hold, allowing the work to become more abstract. In this process, I have found inspiration in Impressionist and Fauvist painters, whose use of color, movement, and atmosphere is more important than realism.
I have also been experimenting with cut paper art, and different scribbly drawing styles which have helped loosen up my art and encourage a less rigid, more whimsical style.
